Excerpts of La Marquesa Returns to Academe from the Aran Islands

Professor Emily Hicks , Chicano/a Studies and English and Comparative Literature, will be performing in Scripps Cottage on Aztlan Island, Tues, April 6 to May 25 at 2:30 PM. Teleport to the event now

She will perform excerpts from "La Marquesa Returns to Academe from the Aran Islands." In her first performance she used the chat function to present "The San Patricios," a bilingual piece about the Irish who fought on the Mexican side of the Mexican-American War. In upcoming performances, students will be invited, following each performance, to participate in an open mic session. They will also meet SL performer Micha Cardenas and her collaborator Elle Mehrmand in her CLT 514 Euro/Americas Avant Garde class, on April 21st. The class is open to the public.

Dr. Hicks plans to first use the chat function to deliver texts, giving students the opportunity to choose avatars and acquaint themselves with SL. In the future, they may explore linking their SL performances to live performances. They will also study the work of Micha Cardenas and Elle Mehrmand as well as the examples on the SDSU SL initiative web site. With the experience they gain in this project, they hope to coordinate performances with other live performances.
